Basic Purpose

To originate business loans and communicate the benefits offered by business services products and services to Navy Federal Credit Union members by engaging in community and networking activities. Identify appropriate member/client base to contact and solicit new business and referrals. Develop business proposals for existing and newly developed members/customers to help their company/business. Follow up with members to respond to inquiries and questions related to business products and services. Communicate Navy Federal business services products and services in order to generate a consistent and ongoing flow of new business loan applications and closings.


• Market and sells business products and loans to new and prospective members through the vigorous investment in community activities, networking, and in-person meetings with business leaders and potential borrowers
• Engage in outside marketing and promotional activities away from Navy Federal offices to support business products and services
• Analyze current member/client base to establish, contact and solicit new business by arranging face-to-face meetings with members at their place of business
• Monitor business loan process to ensure compliance with Federal laws, as well as, Navy Federal, NCUA, CFPB guidelines and regulations
• Maintain and ensure loan production goals and cumulative loan dollar bookings, conversion, disposition, member service and loan quality are achieved
• Ensure section objectives, production goals, standards, and strategies are executed and align with division priorities
• Interview and counsel prospective clients/members to discuss available options and alternatives by arranging face-to-face meetings with members at their place of business
• Collect supporting documentation, e.g., balance sheets, profit and income and cash flow statements, business strategy employed, etc. to evaluate and underwrite business loan
• Manage the business loan closing process and loan proceed disbursement
• Conduct on-site visual inspections of businesses ensuring collateral and/or covenants are abided by member business
• Perform on-going quality control to ensure efficiency and accuracy of processes and procedures
• Detect errors and initiate or arrange for corrective action; ensure resolution
• Conduct quality control reviews of documents to ensure adherence to all regulations and requirements; communicate and/or correct errors/omissions
• Establish positive work environment, open communication and accountability; resolve technical or resource issues
• Identify and recommend process improvements to Project Manager, team and/or management
• Involved in driving continuous process improvement to increase member experience quality; reduce losses; minimize financial risk and maintain high operational efficiency
• Remain alert to threats to loan security, fraudulent applications, and other questionable practices that may negatively impact the quality of the loan portfolio or create inappropriate financial risk
• Perform other duties as assigned


• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, related field, or the equivalent combination of experience, education and training
• Advanced sales and consulting skills
• Expert knowledge of business products, services, programs, policies and procedures
• Ability to comprehend, analyze and explain multiple, complex loan programs, financing options and basic mathematical principles
• Advanced skill applying lending principles, financial practices and evaluation of creditworthiness to make credit decisions
• Advanced skill developing, documenting and presenting credit analyses involving business lending opportunities including commercial real estate (CRE), commercial and industrial (C&I) and SBA type deals
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Advanced organizational, planning and time management skills
• Advanced skill applying lending principles, financial practices and evaluation of creditworthiness to make credit decisions
• Advanced skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Advanced skill interacting with staff, management, vendors and members diplomatically and tactfully
• Ability to interpret and apply regulations, instructions and procedures
• Effective skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
• Effective word processing and spreadsheet software skills
• Desired – Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies and procedures
